But how did I get where I am today?

My story

I started Sarah Townsend Editorial back in 1999. (A world pre-internet. Imagine that!)

Before becoming a freelance copywriter I’d worked both client side – in the marketing department for a financial services company – and agency side, as an editor and account manager for a magazine publisher.

I never had any intention of working for myself.

Funny how, 20 years later, I quite literally wrote the book about freelance life!

Since 2020, Survival Skills for Freelancers has helped freelancers in 28 countries grow in confidence and achieve their own definition of success.

I wrote it to help others navigate the challenges of freelance life. I didn’t expect it to lead to shedloads of podcast interviews (60+ at the last count) and speaking opportunities.

Today, as well as writing great copy for businesses that make a positive difference, I speak about how human language helps you grow genuine connections with your customers.

It works – and it’s why I build human language into every copywriting and editing project.
